He has more than 30 years of experience as a published writer, dating back to his junior year of high school in 1992-93. Award Winning Author

Ernie began writing at a young age, authoring “George Brett and the Missing Baseball,” for an assignment in the fifth grade. By age 13, he was writing Big 8 football (Yes, he is old) previews for fun.

Ernie was a sports editor and assistant editor for his high school paper and continued working in newspapers during college, including as the sports editor for the late, great Kurt Kessinger at The Osage County Chronicle from 1995 to 1999 and as the editor in chief of the Washburn Review during his senior year.

He worked at the Topeka Capital-Journal, Independence Daily Reporter and Emporia Gazette in Kansas; the McAllen Monitor in Texas; The Daily Press in Newport News, Virginia; and the Tulsa World in Oklahoma. Ernie still covers several football games a year on his blog for his alma mater, Burlingame High School.

When he isn’t writing/designing advertisements, videos, recruiting materials and other items as a marketing director at Washburn, he regularly blogs about sports, family (especially his late father), nostalgia, true crime and many other topics.

Ernie has been married to his goddess of a wife for going on 13 years. The couple has three adult children and a whipper snapper of a kitten, Silas Thistle Webb the First.

1987

My First Book

I wrote “George Brett and the Missing Baseball” for a class assignment in the fifth grade. My mother surprised me with the long-lost book as a Christmas gift in 2022.

1994

First Place in Sports Writing Competition

I received first place for sports writing in the statewide Kansas high school journalism contest.

2001-02

First Place in Sports Writing and Column Writing

I won first place in the Kansas Press Association competition for sports writing in 2001 and sports column writing in 2002.

2024

In the weeks leading up to the official publication date, “Goodbye, Butterfly” becomes a hot new release and bestseller at Amazon.

'Goodbye, Butterfly' published

After seven years of research and writing, “Goodbye, Butterfly” is available. The official release date was Sept. 17, 2024.
