Big 12 rankings, Week 10: Famous people edition

Oklahoma State survived, Oklahoma wins (and loses with Ryan Broyles’ injury) big as we head into the home stretch. This week’s rankings are brought to you by entertainers who graduated from or attended the Big 12 schools:

1. OKLAHOMA STATE (9-0, 6-0) | LAST WEEK: Defeated Kansas State 52-45 | THIS WEEK: At Texas Tech

The rub: The more I watch this team, the more it looks like a team of destiny. Yes, they catch a lot of breaks. But they also make a lot of big plays. Longtime Cowboy Gary Busey would be proud …

The rub: Oklahoma made its point the last two weeks after choking against Texas Tech, but Ryan Broyles is a huge loss. We’re just a few weeks away from the “slobberknocker” between the Sooners and Oklahoma State, as former Sooner Jim Ross would say …

3. KANSAS STATE (7-2, 4-2) | LAST WEEK: Lost to Oklahoma State 52-45 | THIS WEEK: Vs. Texas A&M

The rub: The Wildcats nearly pulled off the stunner Saturday before coming up just yards short. The end of the season has not been kind to Kansas State, like the before and after photos of former Wildcat Kirstie Alley …

4. TEXAS (6-2, 3-2) | LAST WEEK: Defeated Texas Tech 52-20 | THIS WEEK: At Missouri

The rub: The Longhorns may not be great, but they do have a shot at finishing third in the conference. Not bad considering they don’t have a quarterback. In other news, much like Matthew McConaughey as Wooderson in Dazed and Confused, Texas has ditched the “geeks” to form a watered-down version of the Big “12.”

5. BAYLOR (5-3, 2-3) | LAST WEEK: Defeated Missouri 42-39 | THIS WEEK: At Kansas

The rub: So, the Bears defense is awful. Does it matter that much when you average about 2,000 yards of offense? Thomas Harris, a Baylor grad, wrote “Silence of the Lambs.” Saturday’s game against Kansas will resemble that book/movie …

The rub: As predicted, the Aggies have been wildly overrated and might end up losing five or six games this year. Time to ditch Mike Sherman and bring in Patches O’Houlihan (portrayed by A&M grad Rip Torn) …

The rub: A win’s a win, even if it is by three points against the worst team in Big 12 history. It was so difficult to find an entertainer with a degree from Iowa State that I had to go to an oldie, but a goodie (not to mention a guy who doesn’t have a degree from ISU) …
